Hybrids are famous for having the ability to get phenomenal mileage, although they are not known for being fast. Most of the past hybrids were made with low powered engines and electrical counterparts that made for weak acceleration and even weaker power. However, some of the newer hybrids are actually pretty quick! Take the Lexus GS 450h for instance, this car actually hits 0-60 in about 5.2 seconds and gets 22 miles per gallon in the city, 25 mpg on the highway. And with this whole new generation of hybrid vehicles being created there have been quite a few power improvements as well.
Take the Chevrolet Tahoe for instance it is a very powerful and fast SUV, however one of the drawbacks for this hybrid is cost. Typically hybrids of this nature tend to cost more due to the electrical components that are added to the engine. But with gas prices hovering around $5.00 in California, it can definitely be said that this is an intelligent investment in the future.Tahoe Hybrid Specs:
- Engine : Vortec 6.0L V-8 16 valve OHV SMPI zero
- Horsepower : 332hp @ 5,100RPM notzero
- Torque : 367 lb.-ft. @ 4,100RPM zero
- Transmission : 4-spd automatic w/overdrive notzero
