Show off your singing style online

Many singers who are now in their thirties, forties or beyond will remember the days of having to trail from one club or dingy singing venue to another in order to become famous, even on a local basis. Even some of today’s biggest stars started out this way and will remember what a long, difficult process it was to get that lucky break.

The kids of today who fancy their chances in the singing and entertainment industry have one huge advantage in the form of the internet. This is a great way for talented kids, teens, and even older people to show off what they can do in terms of music, singing and even songwriting.

If you are looking to show off your singer/songwriter skills and don’t mind getting constructive criticism – something that all artists should have and embrace – then the Internet could be the ideal place to showcase your singing and songwriting talent for others to see.

One thing to bear in mind if you do use the Internet in order to show off your talents is that it is unlikely that you are going to suddenly become famous overnight, although it is not unheard of and you could be one of the lucky ones that gets noticed by the right person at the right time. It is most likely, however, that you will need to upload a number of videos to even start receiving decent feedback, as getting your video just right for the internet is something of an art in itself and could take some practice.

Another thing to bear in mind is that while you may believe that you are the best singer and songwriter you know, and your family and friends may reinforce that idea with bags of praise, it is the general public that will determine how good you are and ultimately how successful you are, as without them you wouldn’t sell your songs at all! Therefore, when you do receive criticism off complete strangers who have seen your video don’t be upset or angry, take it on the chin and learn from it, as they are ultimately the people that would be buying your music if you were lucky enough to get that big break.

There is no doubt that the Internet has played a huge part in the successful careers of many singers, and with the right attitude, plenty of patience and a lot of determination you could be one of the ones to benefit from the power of the Internet.

Fired Starbucks employee becomes famous

A former employee of the coffee shop chain Starbucks has become famous on the internet after he uploaded a video of himself singing a song, which subsequently got him fired from his job. Christopher Cristwell was fired on the same day as he posted his video, which showed him singing in his underpants and a green apron, making disparaging remarks about customers.

He recorded the song in July and since then it has gone viral. The twenty five year old said that he was surprised at how much attention his video got and he has received thousands of messages of support on his Facebook page. He said “I’m surprised that people are enjoying it so much, I really made the video just for my fellow co-workers and closest friends.”

Unfortunately, managers also saw the video and he ended up losing his job. In his latest video, uploaded recently, he sings “Just so you know, I love my job, I loved my boss and coffee too …”

After canning him from his job Starbucks officials said: “while Christopher was expressing his own views in the video, the disparaging remarks about our customers and company are unacceptable and out of line with our commitment to providing a respectful Starbucks experience …”

X-Factor publicity gets teen his own Facebook page

A teen is enjoying the publicity of having a Facebook page set up about him and getting tens of thousands of hits after he went to the Australian X-Factor auditions to strut his stuff. Eighteen year old Luke O’Dell did not manage to get through to the next rounds after his auditions failed to impress the judges, but he certainly did raise a few eyebrows and get himself that all important publicity.

The judges first sat through an audition of Luke confidently taking over the stage at the Brisbane X-Factor auditions as he sang Since you Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson. However, although they weren’t impressed Luke decided to offer up a song of his own called ‘Introvert Extrovert’.

The catchy song is certain to have got stuck in the heads of many X-Factor fans and according to reports Luke has released the song on iTunes independently even though it didn’t get him through to the next round. All three judges said no to Luke but it seems that the public are captivated by him with over twenty two thousand likes on the Facebook page that has been created about him since he auditioned for the X-Factor!

Becoming Famous: Lin Yu Chun

While it was actually on the television talent show, One Million Stars, which was aired in Taiwan, where he actually first appeared, it was only when his singing was seen online that Lin Yu Chun became famous. Since that time he has appeared on everything from high profile chat shows to the fifth season of American Idol, where he performed during the You Tube auditions week.

Described as Taiwan’s answer to the British sensation Susan Boyle, who has now gained global acclaim, Lin was voted off the talent show before a video of him singing made it to the Internet. Within a short space of time the young man was a global internet superstar. He received more than ten million hits on the video of him singing Whitney Houston’s I will Always Love You, which he dedicated to his grandmother.

Since this time Lin has appeared on numerous shows showing off his singing voice, including the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Lopez Tonight. He also did a duet on Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler with William Shatner. It was also announced that the young singer had been signed with Sony Music.

Thanks to the Internet Lin’s life has been transformed forever, which shows how powerful Internet exposure can be even if you have appeared on TV in the same way that Lin did. Despite his appearance on the Taiwanese talent show it was actually his Internet video that catapulted him into becoming famous worldwide.
