Johnny Depp talks about the art of lying

Johnny Depp, Hollywood icon and star of the blockbuster animated movie Rango, has recently spoken about the art of lying and how to identify when someone is telling porkies. The star, who voiced the lead role of Rango the chameleon in the animated hit movie, said that he picked up some ‘lie detector’ tricks whilst voicing Rango, with the chameleon having to tell a few on screen lies after getting himself into some tricky situations in the movie.

Depp said: “If this guy is in deep stress and forced to act or lie in these situations that really are do or die, one of the things I’ve always been fascinated with people is they have a tendency where the register of their voice goes up when they lie. You and I could have a conversation like this, but if I’m really starting to talk about something and I want you to believe me, the register goes up. You start teetering on soprano.”

He said that he thought that everyone had a little of the lying ability that Rango displays inside them. He added: “What I saw early on with the character, and something that [director Gore Verbinski] and I talked about, is that it is in sort of all of us, in a way. There is a chameleonic side to all of us in which we find ourselves in certain situations that you have to adapt to, sitting across from personalities that you have to adapt to in order to survive the moment or survive the day. That’s kind of how I saw Rango.”

Johnny bigs up Jolie at press conference

As millions of his adoring fans will know, Johnny Depp recently jetted to Japan to promote his new animated comedy flick Rango. The Hollywood icon recently attended a press conference in Tokyo, and spent a large chunk of his time bigging up his co-star in the recent movie The Tourist, Angelina Jolie.

Whilst there was some controversy and split opinions over the chemistry between Jolie and Johnny on the set of the movie, Depp had nothing but good things to say about his co-star, who is the partner of another Hollywood legend Brad Pitt. At the press conference Depp is said to have been ‘gushing’ over Jolie, using many words to compliment her and describing her as a ‘shockingly good mother’.

Depp told waiting reporters: “She is such a versatile, wonderful person who can portray anything. She is a down to earth, clever, funny woman and shockingly great mother. She is very calm even if she’s surrounded by paparazzi. I don’t know what I would do [if I was in that situation]. I could’ve been in prison by now!”

He also jokingly said that he had not told his family about the love scenes that he shared with Angeline in The Tourist. He said: “I didn’t tell my family that I was shooting the film. I can’t remember, I wasn’t in it, I didn’t take the role and this film doesn’t exist. Angelina who? I can’t remember her name, so I’m clean.”

UK attractions gaining popularity thanks to Johnny

It is amazing what a well known and much loved celebrity can do for tourist and business, with a mere appearance or link to a popular celebrity increase interest in a place or business enormously. This is something that has been proven time and time again, and the adored actor Johnny Depp has done his fair share of helping businesses and attractions in the UK along with his links and appearances over the last couple of years.

It was recently reported that a stately home in Cornwall, England had seen tourism rocket because of its affiliation with a hit Johnny Depp movie. Anthony House was used by the eccentric director and friend of Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and this was for the movie Alice in Wonderland, in which Depp starred as the Mad Hatter. This UK attractions shot up in terms of popularity with staff having difficulty coping with the sudden interest in the stately home and the number of visitors that were flooding through the doors.

It has now been announced that the Greenwich Old Royal Naval College has shot to popularity following the opening of the Discover Greenwich interpretation centre last year – and more notably the appearance of Johnny Depp whilst he was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in the area last year.

Following this appearance popularity and visitor numbers shot up, and as a result the visitor numbers increased by almost 30 percent compared to the previous year. It is likely that visitor numbers will increase further this year when the movie is actually released.
